Wendy Kurth Silver is a San Francisco-based painter who captures the vibrant culture of the city onto the canvas through her abstract, geometric work. Silver is an avid traveler and is inspired by urban scenes around the world. “After my first trip to Barcelona,” says Silver, “I returned to my studio with ideas that I needed to articulate visually.” Silver’s graphic paintings are a fusion of inspiration from graffiti, parking garages, street signs, architecture, street patterns, fashion, interior design, and technology. Silver’s body of work includes non-representational compositions, as well as abstract paintings of coded words that reflect the entrepreneurial energy of San Francisco. It is owned by private collectors in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans, Florida, and Connecticut.

Silver’s career began in 1981 when she left her small town on the Space Coast of Florida to study fashion and art at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After years of fashion design, Silver invented and patented a kitchen gadget, a salad chopper known as the Toss & Chop, which launched her company, Silvermark, in 2002. The Toss & Chop went on to become a wild success and is still a highly-rated item on Amazon today. Wendy’s inspiring story was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Today Show, and Good Morning America, and on numerous shows and magazines. Following the sale of Silvermark in 2012, which had grown to a line of over 100 kitchen products, Silver was able to move to San Francisco to devote herself to painting full-time. The one constant throughout her varied career has been her creativity and deep passion for art, painting, and design.
